"And what about Ian Thorpe? If he was a country, he'd be ranked tenth on the medal tally." -- Commentator at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.

Well, the Manchester closing ceremony was rocking all over the (bland, sucky, generally poorly-thought-out) opening ceremony, until they got to the bit where the announcing was being done by an American, the singer was an American performing wildly inappropriate crap, and, well, it started to suck horribly.

I have nothing against Americans - truly, if I did I wouldn't be in love with one - but they have no place in the Commonwealth Games, and particularly not at the closing ceremony, which is supposed to showcase the host country. And while England has lost much of the glory she used to have, surely she doesn't have to make like America and become culturally void?

For the record, yeah, I've more or less stopped updating this and am using my livejournal instead, because while it has less pretty and no linklist goodness, hey, nifty update client.

This will still get updates, just less frequent ones. More ranty ones. Possibly funnier ones. We'll see.
