On watching 'Jaguar und Aimee'

Intellectually, I know that a great many people died during the second World War.

I know that an especially great number of Jews fell to the 'Final Solution'.

Somehow, the entirety of my studies in History don't have the impact that one story, of one small group of people, and one woman who was taken to the camps and not seen again does.

The DVD has a photo gallery of the real Lilly and Felice.

Felice was barely older than I am when she was arrested by the Gestapo. It's so hard to imagine - being the age I am now, and living in a city under attack, and, well - being Jewish in Nazi Germany.

There's a photo of Lilly, taken three years after Felice was arrested. She looks like she's aged about thirty years in that time.

There was so much, then. How did people survive?
